YONG, MUHDY & CO.

January 2011 has been one hell of a ride :) Enlistment!!!

Spent 4 weeks at Kranji Camp 3. I am not allowed to detail what we did inside cause it's classified military information, so here are just some pictures of us post-BMT.

Initially, I was wondering how I was going to get past these 4 weeks. I didn't know anyone, and every single day felt like a chore. As the days went back, we all became friends, and the days passed increasingly quickly, and I actually looked forward to booking in!

Here's us on the last day, after booking out of camp:

From left: Me, Weisheng, Jerryl, Gerald, Andrew

Buddies since Day 1! (EH TYPO it should be 4111 and 4112)

Platoon 4!

We went for a swim afterwards at Choa Chu Kang - Weisheng's turf.
Weisheng has a damn B****face!

He almost scared me to death when he and Andrew teamed up, and claimed that he (weisheng) had a Bionic/Prosthetic leg!!!

My world was rocked by an earthquake - 100 on richter - and was crumbling apart... and then he said it was a joke. @#$#%$#%$^$%^$!!!!!

Camwhoreeeeeee

Then we went to Dian Xiao Er for CNY-eve lunch.

Angelica Herbs Duck. I love Dian Xiao Er to bits!!!

Andrew had to leave early, so we were left to play Monopoly Deal at McDonalds :)

It was a very stressful game. Gerald's brains almost popped out of his head.

Best of all, I made a bunch of really good friends... and they were very supportive as I went for interviews for USP and URA. On 31st January 2011, I was offered the URA Undergraduate Scholarship for Town Planning / Geography!

This whole enlistment thing has been a huge eye-opener. I've met so many new people from all walks of life - and I have grown in terms of intrapersonal and interpersonal skills.

For one, I became acutely aware of the ease at which I judge people, based on stereotypes and prejudices. I've been conditioned to label things so quickly, often learning that these pre-conceived notions turn out to be nothing but completely false! The new friendships forged here are definitely worth treasuring - it's the head-shaving and uniformity that creates a sense of equality. Indeed, stripping us of all the things that indicate our socioeconomic status or academic background have indeed created a sense of camaraderie, one that is impossible to replicate in any other environment!

I love these buddies, and I think we will stay in touch for a REALLY long time!

With that, I've finished my first 4 weeks of service, with 100 more weeks to go :)

For now, I have 2 more weeks of ST Training at Clementi, so wish me all the best in NS!
